The Ashland Springs Hotel (ASH) is holding a limited number of hotel rooms at a special rate of $89 plus taxes for the Friday night (Nov. 20, 2009) stay of participating book fair authors who might find this convenient.
To reserve your room, call the hotel and ask for the “Southern Oregon Book & Author Fair” block rate. This allows you to drive in the night before the fair and enjoy a rested stay. Buffet breakfast is included. Friday evening parking in the ASH lot is also included for registered guests – You will have to move your car to the public parking lot in the morning after you check-out, however.
The hotel is just steps from the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in the heart of downtown Ashland, Oregon. Within walking distance of the hotel, guests may enjoy Lithia Park, Oregon Cabaret Theatre, galleries, restaurants, and boutique shopping.
Fair lunch service provided by the Ashland Springs Hotel
The AHS will also be providing the same author lunch ordering/delivery system during the 2009 Southern Oregon Book & Author Fair as at the 2008 fair (lunch is not included in your registration). This worked well in 2008 and authors were happy with their meals. Please note that external food/drink (including water) is not allowed into the hotel for an event, whether from home or from another restaurant.
For those not familiar with this service, the ASH will provide a water cooler in the book fair area. Also, a “short menu” will be distributed to authors on the tables in the a.m. Authors interested in eating in the hotel during the fair, can order their meal from the menu and pay for it. The hotel staff will pick up the orders (starting at approximately 11:3o a.m.) and deliver the food to the tables. Authors are entirely responsible for their food and beverage payments. All meal tabs include an 18% tip plus 5% city tax (note, the latter may – or may not - have been voted ‘out’ by the date of the book and author fair). No alcohol allowed.
If you do not want to eat from the hotel provided menu, you have the option of leaving your table and eating outside the hotel, but no external food, either from home or a restaurant, will be allowed into the hotel for our group. Ignoring this rule, or any other, will result in your being asked to leave, and no fair refund will be provided.
(Also, assuming sufficient author registration to cover the cost, the organizer will arrange for a caffeinated coffee service to be set up for authors only. This may be found in an author “break area” located in the Palm Room, also on the 2nd floor.)
